CHE 399 Learning Interns

Are you interested in helping other CHE students, earning some college credit, enhancing your communication skills, and continuing to keep your chemistry knowledge fresh? If so, consider an opportunity to earn credit through CHE 399. Interns work directly with a faculty member in their course to help with in-class activities.

Interns are expected to

  • Attend a one hour meeting each week to discuss the class activities for the week, and reflect on the previous week’s activities (time TBD based on student schedules).
  • Attend class each day to circulate around the room to help answer student’s questions during in-class activities.
  • Write a reflection paper at the end of the semester expressing what you felt were the advantages and/or disadvantages of the Internship for you.
  • Help with other tasks, as needed, to complete the required hours.  Tasks may include helping prepare materials for class, editing closed-captioning on videos, helping students outside of class.  These are pretty flexible and can be done based on your interests.

How to sign up

  1. Contact your previous instructor to see if they are accepting interns or contact dgc.chemistry@uky.edu to see which courses will have interns.
  2. Complete and sign the Learning Contract, then submit to the instructor.
  3. Once approved by the instructor and the Department of Chemistry, you will be given an override to register for the appropriate section of CHE 399.
