{"id":1672,"date":"2019-01-26T23:19:23","date_gmt":"2019-01-26T23:19:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wp.as.uky.edu\/genchem\/?page_id=1672"},"modified":"2023-01-02T15:33:07","modified_gmt":"2023-01-02T15:33:07","slug":"fitb_answers","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/wp.as.uky.edu\/genchem\/exam-info\/fitb_answers\/","title":{"rendered":"FITB Answers"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1 class=\"discussion-title\">Grading Guidelines for Fill in the Blank Questions<\/h1>\n<p>Students frequently ask questions about how fill in the blank questions (FITB) are graded.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Answers containing additional text or characters beyond the correct answer will be marked incorrect.<\/li>\n<li>Numerical answers are often graded within a range of the correct value except for exact numbers (i.e. 6 protons in carbon) or when indicated otherwise in the question.<\/li>\n<li>Questions with &#8220;word banks&#8221; should be answered\u00a0<strong><u>only<\/u><\/strong> with those choices given. Spelling matters!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The following instructions are examples of what could be included in questions.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Report your answer to the correct number of significant figures.\n<ul>\n<li>Used on questions to test your knowledge of significant figures. Only answers with the correct number of significant figures will be considered correct.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Report your answer with <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>three<\/strong><\/span> significant figures. (Number of significant figures may vary.)\n<ul>\n<li>To be correct, answers must include\u00a0<u>exactly<\/u>\u00a0the number of significant figures given.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Report your answer with <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>two<\/strong><\/span> decimal places. (Number of decimal places may vary.)\n<ul>\n<li>To be correct, answers must include\u00a0<u>exactly<\/u>\u00a0the number of decimal places given.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Do <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>NOT<\/strong><\/span> include units in your answer.\n<ul>\n<li>Units should\u00a0<u>NOT<\/u>\u00a0be included in your answer to receive credit for a correct numerical value.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>For answers in scientific notation, use the format 2.2e2 or 2.2e\u20102\n<ul>\n<li>If the question says the number must be in scientific notation, then numbers not in scientific notation will be marked incorrect.<\/li>\n<li>If the questions says the number must be in decimal or standard form, then numbers in scientific notation will be marked incorrect.<\/li>\n<li>If there is no requirement either way, answers that are equivalent will be graded the same regardless of format (i.e. 345 and 3.45e2 are equivalent).<\/li>\n<li>When using scientific notation is used, it must be in the correct format (i.e. one digit to the left of the decimal place).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h1 class=\"discussion-title\">Grading Guidelines for Other Questions<\/h1>\n<p>Other types of questions<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Multiple choice questions are graded as right or wrong. No partial credit.<\/li>\n<li>Multiple answer (i.e. pick two) questions are graded as right or wrong.
