Will you be changing the final lab grade cutoffs this semester?
That decision is not made until I have all grades, including final exam grades. If there is any change to the grading scale, it will be posted on Canvas after course grades have been uploaded to myUK. Whether or not the grade breaks will change varies from semester to semester.

Do you curve grades on lab exams/reports/final grades?
No, there is no curve for any grades. A curve implies that there are a certain percentage of A, B, C, D, and E grades which could quite possibly lower some grades. There are no grade adjustments on individual assignments (unless of course you want me to lower grades when averages on assignments seem high…

I’m really close to the next letter grade in lab, can you give me the higher grade since I’m so close? I really need it to get off probation/keep my scholarship/get good grades for med school/etc.
Grades are assigned based on the point totals given. I cannot change your letter grade because you are “close” to the cutoff.

I’m really close to the next letter grade, is there ANYTHING I can do to earn extra credit?
No, there are no extra credit assignments.

Doesn’t the University rules say that 90% is always an A?
No, grade cutoffs are established by each instructor for their course and are given in the course syllabus. The University has a general grading system which outlines the expectations for each letter grade (See University Senate Rules 5.1) but does not establish any grade cutoffs based on points or percentages.
-
I calculated my lab course grade as a 90%, why didn’t I get an A in the course?
In the syllabus, midterm and final course grades are determined based on the total number of points, not percentages. See the syllabus for more information about the points needed for each letter grade.

Can I drop a zero if I missed a lab or didn’t turn anything in?
Yes, the lowest experiment grade is the lowest numerical value whether it is a 0, 23, 47, etc. Remember, an experiment grade is the total number of points earned across all assignments for one lab experiment (i.e. have the same experiment number).
-
Can I drop the Smart Worksheet from one experiment and the report from another?
No, only the lowest experiment grade will be dropped which includes all assignments from a single experiment.

I had a 42 on an assignment and my TA entered it as a 24. What should I do?
